Τους τελευταίους 7 μήνες, ο Πλάτανος αποτελεί μια αυτο-οργανωμένη πολυεθνική δομή αλληλεγγύης με στόχο την ολόπλευρη στήριξη και υποδοχή προσφύγων και μεταναστών στην πρώτη γραμμή των αφίξεων στη βόρεια Λέσβο. Ο Πλάτανος πλαισιώνεται από αλληλέγγυους από όλη την Ελλάδα και τον κόσμο και βασίζεται στην οριζόντια αντι-ιεραρχική οργάνωση, στην άμεση δράση και στην προώθηση της αλληλεγγύης χωρίς διαχωρισμούς.

Η δομή αποτελείται απο το camp το οποίο βρίσκεται πάνω στην παραλία της Σκάλας Συκαμιάς και την ομάδα διάσωσης η οποία επιχειρεί στη θάλασσα.
Το camp παρέχει στεγνά ρούχα, φαγητό και ιατροφαρμακευτική περίθαλψη στους πρόσφυγες που φτάνουν στις ακτές γύρω απο τη Σκάλα Συκαμιάς.
Η ομάδα διάσωσης δημιουργήθηκε σε απάντηση της παντελούς έλλειψης διασωστικών σκαφών, εφόσον στην αρχή τα μόνα σκάφη που προσέφεραν βοήθεια στη θάλασσα ήταν εκείνα των ψαράδων. Έτσι αποφασίσαμε να φέρουμε ένα σκάφος από την Αθήνα και να δημιουργήσουμε μία θαλάσσια ομάδα διάσωσης με ναυαγοσώστες, γιατρούς και μεταφραστές, όλοι τους αλληλέγγυοι.
Από Οκτώβρη μέχρι Δεκέμβρη έφταναν στον Πλάτανο 1500 πρόσφυγες κατά μέσο όρο την ημέρα.
Στο απόγειο των αφίξεων παρείχαμε στήριξη σε περισσότερους απο 3 χιλιάδες ανθρώπους την ημέρα.
Λόγω των σχεδόν μηδενικών αφίξεων τον τελευταίο ενάμιση μήνα, η Αυτο-οργανωμένη Δομή του Πλατάνου βρίσκεται στη φάση σταδιακής απομάκρυνσης των υποδομών της από τη Σκάλα Συκαμιάς

A short retrospective on the seven months of the Platanos self-organized structure.
For the past 7 months, Platanos has been a multinational, front-line support initiative stationed at the beach of Skala Sykamias in Lesvos, providing immediate emergency response to refugees and immigrants. Platanos is a horizontally organized grassroots organization, not an NGO or government charity, and is completely supported by independent volunteers and donations. We do not make distinctions between legal and illegal refugees, or the different countries they are coming from. The need to seek a better life is a right for everyone, as long as the conditions they are living in do not allow them to exist in dignity and safety. The structure of Platanos consists of the camp and the sea rescue team. The camp provides dry clothes, food and medical attention to refugees that land around skala sykamias. The sea rescue team was created in response to the lack of rescue boats, because at the beginning there were no vessels to offer aid in the sea except for those of the fishermen. So Platanos decided to bring a boat from Athens and created a sea rescue team with lifeguards, doctors and translators, all of them volunteers.
From October to December we had an average of 1500 ppl per day. At the height of boat arrivals Platanos was providing support to more than 3000 ppl per day.
With the arrivals of refugees dropping to zero over the last month and a half, Platanos is gradually evacuating the sites that have been hosting us in Skala Sykamias. Platanos needs your support for covering outstanding expenses and help with deconstruction of the camp – which is another big task in itself.
